Without their reports, the tragedy and the suffering are easy to forget. But we must not forget that every day thousands of innocent people are dying of starvation, dehydration, and now, disease that runs rampant. And they desperately need our help.

The Crisis in Myanmar: What You Can Do

In the aftermath of devastating Cyclone Nargis, the crisis in Myanmar continues to worsen as those who managed to survive the storm now face death from dehydration, starvation and disease. The situation has quickly become the worst humanitarian disaster in our lifetime.

While the Myanmar government has yet to allow foreign journalists into the country to report the news, we know from "underground church" workers in Myanmar that 132,000 people have died and thousands more are still missing. The United Nations estimates that 10,000 more people will die each week if immediate, large-scale humanitarian efforts do not begin quickly.

While other groups are struggling to get supplies into Myanmar, Gleaning For The World is working with a coalition of humanitarian groups that has been invited by the Myanmar government to deliver life-saving supplies without government intervention. GFTW is one of the few groups that are able to do this, and we are working to meet urgent requests for food, water and medical supplies.

How will donations be used?
GFTW is working through the Global Aid Network and Asian faith-based organizations to purchase food in Thailand. This food can be distributed to starving people in Myanmar within 72 hours. We are also sending LifeStraws, which can make contaminated water safe to drink, and are processing $1 million in medical supplies to support medical teams that will be sent in.
